My Sweet Audrina by V.C. Andrews (1982)
3.5 out of 5 stars
Audrina is a seven year old girl who lives hidden away from the world with her parents, her aunt and cousin. Before Audrina was born she had an older sister...called Audrina...who died when she was nine. She lives in her older sister's shadow always feeling second best, and her father makes her sit in the first Audrina's rocking chair to connect with her and access her special gifts.
This is more of a family melodrama than horror but it certainly has plenty of dark secrets and scandals, disturbing family dynamics, and some supernatural elements. I absolutely loved all the wild and wacky characters and scenarios, but unfortunately I felt that the story got a bit slow and repetitive in places which dragged the overall experience down for me. My favourite parts were all the bizarre and unsettling elements of the story, I thought they were fantastic. It just felt a bit too drawn out for me to rate it higher.
